\ctrline{To all WEB users and potential users}

We are still waiting to hear from some of you as to your experience in
getting WEB up on your machine. Several worthwhile suggestions have been
received but there may still be some bugs that have not been reported. So
let us hear from you.

The major changes to WEB made in the files that have been sent out to most
of you on tape but not reported in the hard-copy document are:

1) The replacement of {\it module} as the name of an array by the term {\it
mod}\undertext{\ }{\it text}.  Some compilers consider {\it
module} to be a reserved word.

2) A minor changes to Module 97 and a rather major change to Module 98 of
WEAVE to prevent blank lines (as paragraph delimiters) from being gobbled
up under certain conditions. If you have had this trouble, do let me
know. I believe that the bug has been reported or noted at all locations
that received tapes before the fix and that were bothered by it (some
compilers are immune), but you may have been missed.

One major improvement, that Don still has in the works, has to do with
modifying TANGLE and WEAVE so that they will each accept two input files,
a {\it web}\undertext{\ }{\it file}, as usual, and a {\it
change}\undertext{\ }{\it file}. The {\it change}\undertext{\ }{\it files}
can be used for changes to the master files that may be needed to meet the
specific requirements of your computer and its operating system. By
confining your changes to these {\it change}\undertext{\ }{\it files}, you
will not need to clobber the master files and once your changes are
working you will be able to incorporate them readily into new releases of
the master files as they come out. This improvement need not delay your
plans to put the current version of TANGLE into operation as this version
can then be used to tangle the new versions when they become available.
